Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 7620 : Great Laptop Review

As a former university student, there are a couple of things that come to mind when someone tells me that he is buying a new laptop for the season back to school. I always mention five central themes.

First, you will need a laptop that gives you a long battery life. You will also need a large and expansive screen for those moments when you are not close to a monitor. Then, you will also have to enjoy the tact and pencil capacity to take notes. Finally, there is a need for system performance for multitasking and even light games. All of that is at the top of the usual MacBook "Premium" sensation that is expected at about $ 1,000 on a laptop.

It happens that the season of return to school approaches, and Dell sent me through a system that verifies all those boxes. It is the Inspire 16 2-In-1 7620, which is available on Dell.com today for $ 1,225 as I checked.

Specifications and price

The unit I am reviewing today works with Windows 11 Home. It is configured with a processor of the Intel Core i7-1260p series, 16 GB of RAM DDR4 3200 MHz and a SSD NVME PCIE NVME of 512GB M.1. You are free to update the RAM or SSD if you wish to open the back of the unit, even the Wi-Fi module can be changed. This is a great advantage, since HP and LG competitors do not allow you to do this.

However, I want to mention that my model has not been updated to a dedicated GPU, but the NVIDIA GeForce MX550 can be added at the end of the purchase if necessary for an additional cost. My unit has not been updated to the OLED UHD+screen. Instead, it has a standard resolution screen of 1920 x 1200 FHD+ 16 inches. All visualization options are tune in to the 16:10 aspect ratio.

The measures reach 14.05 x 9.91 x 0.72 inches, and the weight is 5 pounds. Again, the 4K OLED screen update would be a large price increase of additional $ 500.

As for the ports, the mixture includes 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports, 2 USB-C Tugerbolt 4 ports, a headphones connector, a full-size SD card reader and an HDMI 1.4 port 1.4. Webcam is 1080p, without Windows Hello. Dell also included the Dell Active Pen-PN5122W for me as part of my review. The pen is sold for $ 50 and is generally on sale for $ 37.

This Dell Inspiron 16 2-In-1 should not be confused with the most powerful laptops of Inspiron plus that has just launched. Those are much more expensive and have Intel H-Class processors, as well as RTX 3060 graphics.

Design

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-In-1 is built hard. The exterior chassis of the device is made of aluminum and colored in its typical Dell Dell "Platinum Silver" option. A "dark green" option is also available, but only in models with NVIDIA MX graphics. This silver resembles what will see in an HP Specter x360 16, or LG Gram 16 2-IN-1. In addition, in terms of weight, all these systems are in the same size and class of weight. There are not many in 1 in 1 inches, but the main competitors are the LG Gram 16 2-IN-1 and the HP Specate X360 16.

However, the interesting thing is that Dell has managed to make his system much more rigid and has also adjusted the design between generations. Looking in photos of 7610 2-In-1 last year, this year's model looks much more like an older MacBook Pro, with more flat and more rounded planes and corners.

Otherwise, when I pressed down on the keyboard cover, as well as I flexed the lid, inspired the Inspiron. This is a system that is built strong. Even hinges are quite strong, keeping 2 in 1 in all angles without problems.

In addition to moving this device between the store, the tablet and stage modes, the hinge can lift the keyboard at an angle when 2-in-1 is in portable mode, so you can write at a more comfortable angle.

Another great design feature in this inspiring? Dell has thought about the moments when your palms can sweat or get dirty. The palm breaks have a soft mylar layer, which can help prevent spots and accumulation of digital footprints. This is important for a laptop that students could end up using that they will go through wear over the years.

Ports

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 7620 : Great Laptop Review ports

The last thing a student wants with a laptop is to have to use dongles and carry a USB-C center. That is something that is not of concern in this 2 in 1. Dell gives you a large mixture of ports. As I mentioned at the top, there is a lot in this machine.

On the left side, you get an HDMI 1.4 port, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 and 2 USB-C TUNCHERBOLT 4. However, however, keep in mind that, like HDMI 1.4, you cannot get 60 fps 4K videos, which I don't think students may need anyway. However, it obtains external GPU support, since Thunderbolt 4. on the right is included, is the SD card reader, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port and a headphones connector. The SD card reader is limited to maximum transfer speeds of 30 MB/s.

Sometimes I mention security in the port section, and in this case, there is a digital fingerprint reader in the ignition button of this machine. If you buy the model with the OLED screen, you will also get Windows Hello. However, for this price, I want it to be standard.

Keyboard and tracks

Students will spend a lot of time on the keyboard and trackpad in this inspiring, and the good news is that both are incredible to use for daily tasks.

The trackpad in Dell Inspiron 16 2-In-1 7620 is one of the largest I've seen on a laptop. While it is not haptic as in the new XPS 13 Plus models, it is soft to use and move and offer some "strong" comments. For dimensions, it measures around 5.2 x 3.5 inches. There is also no "superior" part for the touch panel, since it is directly combined with the plas of Mylar Palm. What a great look!

The touch panel leaves a lot of space for multitactile gestures, sailing through the windows and dragging and dropping. It also seems to collect less digital footprints than my other laptops, mainly due to the mylar layer at the top, which is used in the reposaminum of La Palma. Again, this is great for students.

As for the keyboard, it reminds me of many other laptops from Inspiron. Chicklet's black -style keys have a soft sensation and are not as click as the keys on a MacBook Pro or Sur Surface portable computer. Even so, that soft feeling helps with speed writing. I reached 84 words per minute in a typing test. The keyboard is also backlighted on two levels so you can write at night. Dell even states that it is resistant to spill, although this is not something I tried.

Screen and audio

The Dell XPS alignment was a pioneer on the "Infinity Edge" screen, where the bezels are super thin. The screen on this Inspiron 16 2-IN-1 7620 is clearly inspired by that, although it is a little mitigated. This is another victory for students looking for a new laptop.

The bezels on the side of the screen are thin, but along the top, a bit thick for the webcam. The same also applies to the bottom, where you will find a small black "chin." This helps keep the 2-in-1 as a tablet when folding so that the screen does not accidentally touch.

However, in terms of quality, the 16:10 appearance ratio in Dell Inspiron 16 2-In-1 7620 of this year is a great impulse for productivity. Together with the huge 16 -inch panel he gets, this means that I can stack two full -size Microsoft Edge Windows one next to each other and multitasking to do more.

16:10 Allows more vertical space on the screen. The black text looks super sharp, and the white colors are very bright and vibrant. The bright glass panel also helps reduce the glow, especially when it is under bright lights. I noticed in the bleeding background light.

In terms of color precision, my colorimeter tells me that this screen reaches 95% of the SRGB spectrum. The brightness also reaches 320 nits max. To prove that precision of the color outside the reference points, I saw episodes of The Terminal List of Amazon. In this dark program, I accurately made the details on the face of Reec after it left a new shooting in San Francisco. The scars, his blood and even the black gunpowder were visible and realistic, which leads me to say that this exhibition will be excellent for multimedia and that the 4K OLED option will only be better.

Dell says the screen uses DC attenuation technology. This helps reduce flickering. The screen even supports ComfortView Plus, to help reduce blue light emissions, without giving up color.

As for audio, there are quadruple speakers on board, with Maxxaudio waves. Much of the audio comes from the sides of the keyboard cover, which makes the movies and YouTube see immersive. All 4 speakers are 2 watts, so the sounds you hear will be really great. I felt that this applies to music, as well as to audio calls.

Entrued with Dell active Pen

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 7620 : Great Laptop Review pen

Dell provided me with the optional PN512W Dell Active PN5122W as part of my review. Unlike Surface Slim Pen 2, this pen does not require pairing to work. You can place the AAAA batteries included and start up.

Like many other Styli, it admits 4,096 pressure levels. It also has a cone -shaped tip, which can offer a more comfortable writing experience. Through the peripheral administrator of Dell (not pre -installed) you can adjust the sensitivity of the tip and adjust the sensitivity of the inclination. You can change the functions of the buttons and assign them to different actions. To match the peripheral administrator to do all this is easy, and all it does is open the application, touch the pen on the screen and voila. There is no need for Bluetooth!

I used the ink pen in Onenote, as well as FreshPaint for the basic drawing by containing the inspiring in the tablet and the modes of study. I am not an artist, but I felt that the pen is quite precise, it always reflects my blows. It is also a very light pen, which means that my hands did not feel "tired" after prolonged sessions of notes during meetings.

The only inconvenience of this new pen is that there is no way to mount it in inspiration. The Activa Dell Premium (PN579X) pen with the XPS 13 had a magnetic side that allowed it to unite a tablet. Even Lenovo includes a USB-A case for his optical pencil, and wish Dell had done the same.

Webcam and microphone

Now, I get to the critical performance section. Intel P series chips that are on this device are designed to function at low power (28 watts) but offer similar balanced performance compared to the 45 -watt H series chips. They are found in thin and light laptops, as well as in laptops of work, and are of average range in the 12th generation mobile line. Basically, think about it. The U series is at the bottom for tablets and ultrabooks, the P series in the medium for laptops work and the H up -series for playing machines.

Equipped with the Intel Core i7-1260p, with a total of 12 cores (4 performance and 8 efficient), that means that this Inspiron 16 2-in-1 7620 feels the perfect performance balance.

Here are the tests that I usually execute to try it. In Cinebench R23, the machine obtained 10,752 in multiple nuclei and 1,668 in a single nucleus. In Geekbench 5, the machine reached a score of 7,607 multiple nuclei and a single core 1,683 score.

In the 1080p games, GTA V played 59 fps in low configurations, around 70 paintings in the middle and 15 paintings. Keep in mind that the system does not heat up too much during the use and execution of these tests. Only the edges near the back collect heat.

We do not maintain reference points like other publications to compare it. Instead, we talk about real -life tasks. But, if a comparison is what you want, I think this system is easily approaching the yoga 9i of Lenovo, which reviewed my colleague Kareem Anderson. That system has the same CPU. It's just that Dell has a design and better design package and better.

For office and school work such as navigating on the edge and using the office, this machine accelerates through it without problems. For video editing, the inspiring is to go, but very slowly, with a one -hour podcast that takes approximately 20 minutes to encode. However, that is not a surprise, since this is a chip of the P series where the power of the raw CPU and the cooling for maximum efficiency are not really first. However, it is still a great change since the 11th generation, where these tasks can be slower.

Obviously, you will not make games or videos on this machine, but you can do it if it is patient enough and reduce the configuration. Or get even better results if you opt for a model with dedicated NVIDIA graphics.

Battery duration

The battery life is the strong laptops suit with intel P chips, so this will exceed its expectations. For our daily tests, which involve web navigation and equipment, we obtained about 10.5 hours, with the screen with a brightness of 25% in the machine. The media reproduction loop with the system in inactive, the Wi-Fi OFF and the screen with a brightness of 20%, meanwhile, scored a 17-hour result. I see this laptop that lasts all day, and even if not, you can load using a USB-C energy bank. Dell is not using a generic barrel charger on this machine.

A laptop to be the student's best friend

If you are considering the Inspiron 16 2-in-1 7620, buy it. This laptop offers everything you may need, regardless of whether you are a student or not. The battery life throughout the day, the support for the optional feather Dell Active and the chips of the Intel-P series make this difficult to pass.
